sarees originating from the Chettinad region (centered around Karaikudi) in Tamil N u, India. Famous for their rich cultural heritage and distinctive bold aesthetics, they are a staple in South Indian handloom.

Kattam (Checks): Bold, large, or small geometric checks are a signature hallmark.

• Stripes: Fine weft and warp stripes often run across the body and the pallu.

Kandangi Sarees: The most iconic traditional variant featuring vibrant multi-level checks and stripe combinations. 

Borders & Pallu:

• Characterized by broad, contrasting temple borders (such as reku or gopuram styles) or traditional zari/thread work.

Historically woven using three shuttles to achieve solid contrast colors on both margins.

The pallu (end piece) typically features simple or decorative weft stripes and matching tones.

Color Palette: Rich, earthy, and vibrant tones dominate, including mustard yellow, brick red, turmeric, forest green, deep madder, ochre, orange, and brown.
